Meet Hinton's Walk Ambassador, Jenna Sitar!

1. What is your name, team name, tell us a bit about your story (challenges and triumphs, connection to Muscular Dystrophy or Muscular Dystrophy Canada)?

My name is Jenna Sitar; I am with the Hinton Fire Department. I have helped out at all the MD car washes that the Department has been doing for the last four years. While I don't have experiences specifically about MD, I do know the challenges that families and individuals face with similar diseases such as MS and have watched the toll it takes on family members, caregivers and the person living with the disease.

2. How and why did you become involved in the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy?

I became involved with it since joining the Hinton Fire Department. We are big supporters of the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy, and we have seen the positive support our community has given this important event.

3. Why is it important to you that people participate in the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy?

I believe that it is important because it brings awareness to the challenges people, as well as the families of people with MD, face every day. The funds raised through the walk help with research to find a cure, and support for families living with MD.

4. Tell us about what you do to fundraise and create awareness in your community?

I encourage everyone I know to participate in the Car Wash and spend time leading up to the event spreading the word about how everyone can do their part in finding a cure one day for MD. Every little bit helps!

5. What is your favorite part about the walk?

My favorite part about the walk is seeing the people from our community come out to support it. The smiles that are shared by the families and friends. As well as the determination of the community to exceed the fundraising goal.

6. What tips would you give to a first-time participant?

I would encourage them to get to know the people at the event, the stories behind the faces of MD and to have a good time!
